Samaria Gorge March 8

Samaria Gorge

Step, Step, Step, Step. Now we are almost at the bottom of the mountains. There it is! I think to my self as I see the three kilometer marker.
"Twelve kilometers to go" Sarah says. At least we are done with the steep part. We are hiking Samaria Gorge, a trail from the top of the White mountains on the island of Crete, all the way to the Libyan sea. The walls of the gorge start to thin, and we pass by a ghost town. Four kilometers later, we are at the lunch spot, a ghost town where we have to fend off Kri-kri, wild goats that desperately want our sandwiches. The gorge gets much taller, and thinner. We pass into the shadow of the walls, and enter a section with a small stream which we have to cross over on a ladder. After we exit this section, we are out of the gorge. We ask a person in the exit booth how far it is to the town.
"Two more kilometers" they respond.

  1. Sounds like a pretty fun hike. Was there a great view anywhere along the trail?
